Nearly FAMOUS

John Lennon Impersonator: Sadly there was no chance of meeting John Lennon but Marcus Cahill was a worthy substitute in that, not only did he look like John, but sang like the late great. We were stunned to find that Marcus had spent some time in Western Australia and struggled for regular work, he returned to Liverpool where he was snapped up and holds the record for the John Lennon show at the Cavern Club with 431 performances. He is definitely a world class performer with an eerie ability to reproduce the sound.

Sir Cliff Richard: As we mentioned in our “about us” page, we were thrilled to meet the famous Sir Cliff Richard given that the band was named after one of his 1970’s albums. His discography speaks for itself and he remains a firm favourite in our minds.

Hollywood Bowl: Wido’s boyhood idols, The Beatles played this venue back in  the 1960’s. Fortunate enough to be standing on the stage, we felt a connection with the past in a place where so much music history was made by some of the greats.

Jim Morrison’s Grave:^^Whilst in Paris, we visited the grave of one of the 1960’s iconic symbols-the late Jim Morrison who is buried in the Pere Lachase cemetery-His grave is still visited by many people each year.

Haight Asbury:^^This was the “centre of the universe” in the 1967 Hippie era when the world’s music lovers focused on San Francisco. The corner of Haight and Ashbury in the 21st century was seedy and rundown with few indications of it’s influence on the world pop music culture.

The Cavern Liverpool: We soaked up the history of this famous spot where boyhood idols, The Beatles and countless other 60’s bands whose music we have  played performed at the Cavern. The atmosphere was just amazing and the accompanying tour through the landmarks associated with the Beatles was just wonderful.

“I don’t like  cricket1-Oh No!”..Sir Garfield Sobers: We were fortunate to meet one of the undisputed legends of cricket in Barbados in 2004-he was a boyhood idol when Wido played cricket himself and to meet one of his heroes was awesome.

We appreciated his friendliness and wicked sense of humour.

Really Famous ??

Whilst we are only “Nearly Famous”, this page acknowledges some of the “Really Famous” people we have met or famous places in pop music history that we have visited. We have also played as a musical support act to other famous  stars whose photos we have featured on our Gallery page… enjoy!!

Freddie Mercury: We were able to

visit this statue on the shores of Lake Geneva in Montreux, Switzerland where there is a superb statue of the late singer from Queen who spent the last years of his life in the area.

Though not jazz fans, we could not go past this lakeside stage used at the annual Montreux Jazz festival in Switzerland. We looked out for smoke on the water on the Lake Geneva shoreline..

DILLIGAF!-Kevin “Bloody” Wilson  We were fortunate to meet Kevin Bloody Wilson in Mandurah, and to spend a few minutes after the show having a chat with him. Kevin is an  interesting person and definitely a character in his own league...you bloody bewdy Kev-you’re a legend!

How much music has been made on a Martin? En-route from Washington to New York, we detoured to the small town of Nazareth where the Martin Guitar factory produces some of the world’s finest acoustic guitars. For the next couple of hours, Wido was in guitar heaven as we undertook a tour of the production factory to see the guitar making process. The Martin museum on site, highlights the famous artists who have used Martin guitars. A wonderful musical education and experience for Wido’s grandson, Declan who accompanied them

Let me take you down...John Lennon In 1980, Wido’s boyhood idol John Lennon was murdered outside the Dakota building near Central Park in New York. Some 32 years later, Wido made the pilgrimage to the very spot where Lennon had been shot, and the dreams of a generation had been dashed. We visited  the small part of Central Park renamed  “Strawberry Fields” after Lennon’s 1967 hit which contained the “Imagine Memorial” tribute to the former Beatle..
